When I lost my hair I felt in many respects as if my world was falling apart. I was just Twenty-three, and it was as if my youth had been taken away from me.
I didn’t want to leave the house because I couldn’t stand the thought of people seeing me without hair. I couldn’t even stand to look at myself in the mirror. I knew that in the future I would always appear the ‘odd one out’ at social gatherings, the object of sympathy from some, of ridicule from others.
Of course I tried to disguise, or hide, the problem as much as possible by parting my hair at the side, growing it long, and combing it over, but as my hair at the sides became thinner, this eventually became a waste of time; and it was never much good, except when indoors, as the moment you stepped outside the slightest wind blew it out of place.
If wearing baseball caps hadn’t become fashionable I don’t know what I would have done. I suppose I always knew that the only answer to my problem was to get a wig, but at first this was something I couldn’t bring myself to do. I was painfully aware how wig-wearers were always the target of jokes on T.V, and I thought I would be far too self-conscious to ‘get away with it’. I also had no idea how good the wigs you can get today could be. Gradually I managed to convince myself that this was the thing to do, but it was still only with great difficulty that I got to the stage of looking up ‘wig retailers’ in the Yellow Pages.
I was convinced myself that once I had bought the wig my worries would be over, but in reality the psychological hurdles that had to be overcome were only just emerging.
The feeling of suddenly seeing yourself with a full head of hair again is one which is impossible to describe, and although the wig was beautiful I didn’t think at first that I would ever wear it. It seemed to look too good, because I had become so conditioned to seeing myself without hair. Then as the days passed I would try it on for a few hours, now and again, but still I had my doubts. It was only after several months that I found the courage to wear it out – at first only with a cap over it, but soon, as my confidence grew and I started to go out to new places and meet people who had not known me before.
I was able to dispense with the cap. Now a year later, I find putting the wig on is something which comes so naturally that I don’t really think about it. Of course I would be lying if I said that in the back of my mind I wasn’t still aware that I suffer from hair loss, but the wig has taken much of the ‘suffering’ away. Wearing a wig does not just change your life, it gives you back the life you thought you had lost.
A very grateful customer.

I want to thank you very much for your kind helpfulness when you visited me in Fern Ward – letting me have an un-hurried time trying on many wigs, until I found THE ONE.
My hair is falling out more quickly now and I think in two or three weeks time I will not have any left. I am so grateful to have the wig when the time comes, I can’t imagine facing anyone without it.
Once again very many thanks for your help, kindness and efficiency.

I would like to say how pleased I am with my wig which you fitted for me today. When I walked back into your premises, my brother-in-law did not realise I had a wig on.
After I arrived home I took a parcel to a neighbour who said ‘your hair is lovely’. I said it is a wig! As she didn’t know I was going to have one, I thought what a lovely compliment – this all really has given me such a lift.
Thank you for your good wishes, regarding my chemotherapy treatment and helping make this traumatic time much less painful.

Just a short note of appreciation for all your kindness and care in dealing with my daughter yesterday. The wig you made astounded me, I am amazed at the skill it must have taken to achieve such a result.
I managed to persuade Claire to wear her new hair all the way home and it was wonderful to see her look like her old self. As you are aware it is a very difficult time for her and I am sure she’s delighted with her hairpiece, although she finds it difficult to express herself just now.
So I’m just trying to say it for her, and for myself. Thank you for being so nice, and so skillful.

Hi Les,
I will always be so greatful to you for all the help and kindness that you showed to me so many years ago, when I first entered your premises, as you will recall, the hairpiece I was wearing was in a very sorry state. I will always remember how very embarressed I was in coming into your premises, wearing such a badly made hairpiece, however you soon made me feel at ease.
After leaving your premises I was Happy in the knowledge that I would soon be wearing one of your top quality hairpieces, and after having been associated with your expert knowledge I now have full confidence whenever I am wearing one of your top quality hairpieces, and many of my closest friends to this day do not know that I wear one of your hairpieces, this is due to your top quality merchandise, and your expert styling.
I always feel happy in the fact that I am wearing a top quality hairpiece, and this is due to your devotion to making your customers feel special.
Sincerly
